Active Directory - Campus User Accounts (NetIDs)

Campus users are automatically populated into the Campus Active Directory and are available to be used in the management of your Organizational Unit.

Location of Campus Users

Campus user accounts are located in ou=netid,ou=wisc,dc=ad[test],dc=wisc,dc=edu For convenience, the find function in Active Directory Users and Computers can be used to search for a user by their NetID or other personally-identifiable information. Campus user accounts include e-mail address, phone, and physical address information.

Campus User Account Naming

If a campus user has a NetID, the user account in the Campus Active Directory will be his or her NetID. If the NetID has not yet been activated, the user's UW PVI (Publicly Visible Identifier) will be used as the account user name.

Guest NetIDs

Guest NetIDs are also available. They are located in ou=guestNetID,ou=wisc,dc=ad[test],dc=wisc,dc=edu. Guest NetIDs include the wiscEduSponsorID attribute, which is the NetID of the user that requested the Guest NetID. Guest NetIDs are removed from the directory when they expire.

Special Groups

Some automatically-maintained groups are available in ou=groups,ou=wisc,dc=ad[test],dc=wisc,dc=edu:

ad-all netid-gs: Contains all NetID user accounts (excludes accounts that have not activated a NetID)
ad-All guestNetIDs-gs: Contains all Guest NetID user accounts
UDDS OU: Each group contains campus user accounts who are affiliated with the department corresponding to the UDDS number.
