Science Education Tenure-track Position at University of Texas at Dallas


The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to fill one or more positions in science education at the tenured or tenure-track level

The Science/Mathematics Education Department located in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Texas at Dallas seeks to fill one or more positions in science education at the tenured or tenure-track level. Candidates must have either a PhD in life sciences with extensive experience and research in science education or a PhD in science education with the equivalent of a master's degree in life science. Highly desirable candidates will have a strong science background and at least three years' experience teaching in a pre-college environment, teaching online, and/or teaching pre-service/in-service science education courses for PK-12 teachers. Those seeking a tenured position must have a strong record of external funding and scholarly publication in science education research. The successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in science and science education; contribute to the revision of the current master's programs in science education and integrated science-mathematics education and to the development of a PhD program in science-mathematics education; engage in research, grant writing, and other scholarly activities in science education and related areas; and provide outreach and leadership to local, state, and national educational agencies, professional organizations, and learned societies. The successful candidate will also mentor graduate research leading to master's and doctoral degrees; collaborate with colleagues across the campus to improve the preparation of teachers to teach mathematics and science; develop uses of educational technology as it applies to science and science education; and participate in the Gateways to Excellence in Math and Science (GEMS) program involving the improvement of freshman Calculus, Chemistry, and other science courses. Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and record of professional achievement. Positions begin in August 2010, but other starting dates are negotiable.
