WiscList - Adding Lists as Members (Hierarchies)

WiscList supports list hierarchies, where lists can be added as members to other lists. The following configuration should be followed when creating hierarchies.

  1. Log into the WiscList ListManager interface. (See: WiscList - Logging into WiscList)

  2. Verify the list you want to work with is selected. (See: WiscList - Working with Multiple Lists)

  3. Click the Utilities button on the left side of the interface to open the Utilities submenu.

  4. Highlight List Settings, then click Basic Information.

  5. Click the Enable Features tab.

    WiscList - Child List

  6. Set Enable this list as a child list to Yes, allow postings through from other lists.

  7. Click Save.

  8. Allow non-members to post. See: WiscList - Allowing or Forbidding Non-Members to Send to List

  9. Enable Cross-Posting. See: WiscList - Sending the Same Message to Multiple Lists (Cross-Posting)

  10. Enable Archiving. See: WiscList - Enabling Archiving

Adding a Child List to a Parent List

After creating the parent and child lists and configuring them as shown above, you must add child lists as members of the parent list(s). You add them just like normal members, with the following e-mail address:

listname@lists.wisc.edu

Where "listname" is the name of the list, usually shown in the upper-right hand corner of the WiscList web interface.
