This document provides instructions to set up WebDAV for Learn@UW in Windows XP and Windows 2000. WebDAV is a method of viewing all of your files in a Learn@UW course so that you may easily edit them using drag and drop.

  1. First, navigate to My Network Places. Depending on the setup of your PC:
    • If there is no "My Network Places" on the desktop, go to Start and select My Network Places.
    • If there is a "My Network Places," double-click on My Network Places.

    • uwxxx should be replaced with what is appropriate for your Learn@UW instance. For example, UW-Madison users would use uwmad.
    • <CoursePath> refers to any directories under the Content directory to which the user has access. Find your course offering path by clicking Edit Course and then on ManageFiles.gif Manage Files. Copy the course path as indicated below.
      Manage Files Course Path

    • Be sure that the number and location of slashes matches the above address. For example, a typical Madison course address may look like:
      https://uwmad-webdav.courses.wisconsin.edu/content/enforced/123456-department123_001_sp06/
    • Note: You may be prompted to "Choose a digital Certificate" from an empty list, simply click OK.
  1. Enter your NetID and Password and click OK.
    • To maintain course security, do not check "Remember my password."
    • Note: you may be prompted to enter your NetID and password several times.

  1. Give your new WebDAV folder a meaningful name which includes information about the course and semester (the name will help you to easily identify this network place for future access), and click Next.
  2. To open the new connection, keep the "Open this network place when I click Finish" box checked, and click Finish. You will need to log in again using your NetID and password.
  3. Upon successful login, a folder window will open up revealing all of the files in your Learn@UW course space.
  4. A folder with the name just given will now appear in your My Network Places directory each time you need to access your files. Double-click it and log in with your NetID and Password to access your course files. (Please see notes below)

Notes:

  • This process must be completed for each Learn@UW course, and must be completed each semester.
  • "My Network Places" must be enabled to use WebDAV. Contact support if your "My Network Places" has been disabled.
  • Windows 2000 only: You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 browser or later installed, and the computer may need to install additional software during the setup process for WebDAV to function. All screenshots in this document represent Windows XP.
