Learn@UW - Adding a Semester or Term into the Structure of Your Organization

This document is for Site Administrators only.

This document describes how to add a semester or term into the structure of your organization.

To add a semester or term, follow this procedure:

  1. Logon to Learn@UW as administrator.
  2. Select the DOME link.
  3. Select Org Unit Editor.
  4. Select By Hierarchy.
  5. Left Click on your organization’s highest-level (e.g., Eau Claire).
  6. On the right portion of the page, select Add Child Org Unit.
  7. When the "Add Child Org Unit" dialog box appears, select New Org Unit and click the Next button at the bottom right of the dialog box.
  8. Select the appropriate org unit type from the first drop-down list. This will probably be either the type Term or the first type designated as Semester.
  9. Now fill in the next two boxes with information about the term/semester that you are entering (see example below). Make sure that the OrgUnit Code that you enter matches the one coming from your SIS extract. Do not enter anything for Org Unit Path. Click the Next button at the bottom right of the dialog box when you have completed the entry.
  10. An "Add Variable Value - Set Value" dialog will appear; simply click Next to attach the new term to your organization.
  11. Repeat the entire process for as many semesters as you would like to set up.
  12. To check your work and to make sure you selected the correct Semester Org Unit type if you have more than one, return to DOME. Select Org Unit Editor, By Type. The "good" semester type should have an icon that looks like a little calendar, while the delivered one from D2L looks like a folder. You can also click on the icon to make sure all of your semesters are listed within the selected organization unit type.
