WiscMail/WiscMail Plus (Andriod Mobile OS) - Configure Email Application for IMAP


This document explains how to configure the Google Android Email application to use with WiscMail and WiscMail Plus.

  1. Navigate to the Email application and open it.

  2. If this is the first account that you have configured for Email, then you will see the following welcome screen.

    • If you have an account set up already, you will need to press the Menu key and then select Add account.

  3. In the Set up email screen, enter the following settings:

    • Email Address: netid@wisc.edu or username@mailplus_domain.wisc.edu
    • Password: the password for this email account

  4. Select IMAP as the account type.

  5. Use the following Incoming Server settings:

    • Username:
      • WiscMail users: netid
      • WiscMail Plus users: entire email address
    • IMAP server: wiscmail.wisc.edu
    • Security Type/Port: SSL (Always) port 993
    • leave IMAP path prefix blank

  6. Use the following Outgoing Server settings:

    • SMTP Server: smtpauth.wiscmail.wisc.edu
    • Security type/port: Choose one of the following (note that some networks may block port 25)
      • TLS (always) port 587 is the best option.

        However, there seems be a bug in the account setup that prevents port 587 from being selected. You may need to change this after you have completed setting up your account.
      • or, TLS (always) port 25
      • or, SSL (always) port 465

  7. The last screen asks you to choose a name for the account as it is displayed within the Email application. It also asks for your name as you would like it to be displayed when you send messages to other people.
