Adobe Connect - Sharing Video Files

Important notice:
Changes to the Adobe Connect web conference service at UW-Madison will take effect on June 30, 2012.

UW-Madison is in the process of implementing the Blackboard Collaborate (Collaborate) web conferencing service, which offers a comparable feature set to Adobe Connect.

Please review the details that were communicated to Adobe Connect licensees on April 11, 2012.

The best method for sharing video files varies depending on the file type and size.

Sharing Video Files

The table below shows suggested methods for sharing each type of file:

Flash videos (.swf)

Share pod (“Share Documents”)

Other Video Types (non-Flash)

For small files:

File Share Pod

For large files:

Share Pod (“Share your Screen”)

Online videos

Web links pod

 Flash Video Files

Flash video files (.swf) can be played back directly within a meeting using the Share pod.

See Adobe Connect - Sharing Documents and Files .

Other Video File Types

Other types of video files can either be shared using the File Share pod, the screen sharing functions of the “Share” pod, or by using the Web Links pod to view the video online.

File Share

The File Share pod allows participants to download the linked files; however, this may not be practical with large files.

See Adobe Connect - Creating or Opening a File Share Pod .

Screen Sharing

To share a video with the screen share, the video must already be loaded in another application, such as iTunes or Windows Media Player. The host or presenter can share their screen and play back the video file.

See Adobe Connect - Sharing the Screen of a Participant .

Web Links

Online videos, such as YouTube videos, can be shared through the Web Links pod. The specific URL of the video must be entered into the Web Links pod. For each participant, the video will load and play in an external browser window.

See Adobe Connect - Creating or Opening a Web Links Pod .
