Windows XP - Repairing a Lost Internet Connection
This document explains how to repair the internet connection if you are no longer able to access the Internet and are using Windows XP.
NOTE: Windows 95/98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP are no longer supported by the Help Desk. We can only provide best effort support. If we are unable to resolve your Windows 9x/2000/XP issue, you may be able to find help at Microsoft's Windows 95 website, Windows 98 website, Windows ME website, Windows 2000 website, or their Windows XP website.
These products are no longer actively supported by Microsoft. No further development will take place on these products and security updates are no longer issued. It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Windows 8, 7, or Vista.
SYMPTOMEnd-users connecting on campus through the campus network and/or at home connecting through cable modem or dsl no longer have an internet connection.
SOLUTIONTo run the Windows XP network repair tool:
- Click on Start.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Click on Network Connection.
- Right-click on the LAN or Internet connection you wish to repair.
- Click Repair from the drop-down menu.
- If successful you should receive a message indicating that the repair is completed.
