I can't access folders on a server (on a mapped network drive)

This article will tell you how to restore access to files and folders on a server.

Note: This article assumes you once had access to these files and folders on the server. If you've never had access to the files and folders you most likely need to ask the help desk to set up your account to have access to the files and folders. If this is the case submit an IRM request telling the help desk which files and folders you need access to and why.

Using Wireless:

If you are using wireless then you cannot access map network drives due to the fact that the wireless is actually not part of the network in this building. So if you want to use wireless then you need to install a VPN client from DoIT currently located at http://www.doit.wisc.edu/network/vpn/. Please refer to the documentation on that page to install and use the client to connect.

Using a wired connection:

If you once had access to the files and folders and now you don't have access then the easiest remedy is most likely to re-establish the connection between your computer and the server. Please refer to this document which tells you how to disconnect a network drive and re-map it.
