WiscCal (Outlook Connector) - Outlook Crashes/Restarts when Sending or Deleting Message

This document explains why Outlook may crash and restart when you attempt to send (during reply to a message) or delete a message which initially has an attachment (including a signature, vcard, etc.).

Oracle Outlook Connector for Outlook is configured to only downloads the header information for your mail and calendar objects by default. This helps in allowing Outlook to interact with your accounts more quickly (caching of this data for indexing).

When you open a new message (which includes an attachment) that was not read, Outlook requires some additional time to update its local cache information. If you attempt to reply/send or delete this message before the local cache has been update, Outlook with crash and restart.

To work around this problem, you can configure Outlook to download the full message (including attachments) when it performs a send and receive. Note: Changing this setting may increase the time it takes to complete the send and receive process.

Set full sync by doing the following:

  1. Start Outlook with Outlook Connector profile.
  2. Go to Tools | Send and Receive | Send and Receive Settings | Define Send and Receive Groups...
  3. Click on Edit button.
  4. Make sure "Calendar" and "Inbox" are set to FULL. You can also set any other folder to this setting.
  5. Save changes.
  6. Restart Outlook.

You should no longer have this issue when taking these actions within the folders you modified.
