WiscCal (Outlook Connector) - Oracle Connector for Outlook Installation


This document provides steps for installing/configuring Oracle Connector for Outlook.

IMPORTANT: Outlook Connector does not co-exist or function properly with many add-ins for Outlook. If you experience problems such as connectivity, crashing, or freezing, please disable all your add-ins for Outlook and reinstall the Outlook Connector.

Important: Even though this version of Oracle Connector for Outlook is not yet fully supported for Windows 7 by Oracle, we have been successful in installing and using this version with Outlook 2003 and 2007.

Requirement Value

Operating Systems

  • Microsoft Windows Vista (any version)
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional

Notes

  • Administrative privileges are required to install Oracle Connector for Outlook on Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, and Windows Vista.

  • Windows 2000 SP2 or higher is required. Windows XP Service Pack 1 or higher is required. Oracle recommends Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and Windows XP Service Pack 2. Windows XP SP2/SP3, Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2, and Windows Vista SP1 has been certified to date.

Disk Space

200 MB minimum

Hard disk usage varies according to configuration. Custom installation options may require more or less hard disk space. The amount of online data the user accesses may also affect the disk space requirement.

RAM

Refer to the RAM requirements of your Microsoft Outlook client.

Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft Outlook 2007 (with Service Pack 1)
  • Microsoft Outlook 2003 (with Service Pack 3)
  • Microsoft Outlook 2002 (with Service Pack 3)
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 (with Service Pack 3)

Notes:

  • Oracle certified and recommends the latest service pack versions to date as mentioned above. However, other service packs also work and has been user certified with Oracle Connector for Outlook.

  • A native language version or Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) is required for non-English version localization.

Calendar Server

Oracle Calendar server 9.0.4.2.x, 10.1.x and above.

Note: Oracle Calendar server 10.1.2.x is recommended.

E-mail Servers

  • Oracle Mail server 9.0.4.2.x, 10.1.x and above: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4), and POP3)
  • Other e-mail servers whose implementations are based upon the open standards of SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4

Note: Oracle Mail server 10.1.2.x is recommended. Reference IMAP4 implementations of CMU Cyrus and University of Washington.

Conduits & Application for PDA & Smartphone Synchronization

  • ActiveSync

    • 4.1 for Pocket PC devices

    • 4.2 or 4.5 for 'Windows Mobile 5' and 'Windows Mobile 6' devices

      Note: ActiveSync 4.5 only supports Outlook XP or later.

  • Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) for Windows Vista

    • 6.1 or 6.2 for 'Windows Mobile 5' and 'Windows Mobile 6' devices

      Note: WMDC 6.1 for Vista only supports Outlook 2003 or later.

  • iPhone and iPhone 3G Synchronization

    • OutlookSyncClient with iTunes 7.4.2.4 or 7.7.0.43 or 7.7.1

      Note: Some limitations such as I) modified recurring meeting instances (exceptions) from iPhone is not synchronized back to OCFO, and II) new recurring meetings created from iPhone does not get synchronized with Outlook (with or without OCFO).

      Note: iPhone 3G device update 2.0 or higher is recommended as they have critical Calendar and Contact sync related fixes. iPhone could only be synched with Outlook 2003 or higher using iTunes. This is an iPhone sync requirement.

  • PocketMirror 3.1.6 to 4.1.x

    Note: Chapura PocketMirror is used with Palm Desktop and Palm HotSync to synchronize with Palm devices.

  • Palm Desktop 4.1.4 'Extended version' to synchronize directly between Oracle Connector for Outlook and Palm devices.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager (BDM) 3.6.0 to 4.1.1.x

    Note: Versions after 3.6.0 require the " Oracle Connector BBDM Patch 1.1" to synchronize with BlackBerry devices. BDM version 4.2 or higher is not supported due to changes made in the BDM software.


Preinstallation Requirements

Before installing Oracle Connector for Outlook, verify that the following requirements are met:

  • A supported Microsoft Outlook version installed on a supported platform

  • Administrative privileges for installing Oracle Connector for Outlook on Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows Vista

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 installed in the Corporate or Workgroup (CWG) mode

    To verify the Microsoft Outlook configuration, select Options, Mail Services, and Reconfigure Mail Support from the Tools menu.


    Caution: If you use offline folders, synchronize your offline folders before upgrading to avoid loss of information.


Installation Instructions


Notes:

  • If you have upgraded your Microsoft Outlook installation, then you must reinstall Oracle Connector for Outlook.

  • An upgrade from 10.1.2.x will reset your Oracle Connector for Outlook local storage and restore the default Send/Receive and View settings. Back up any client-side e-mail rules or PDA data before upgrading.

  • In Office Outlook 2007 manual profile configuration for server settings is required when creating a new OCFO profile. To configure the Mail settings, use either 'Control Panel (Classic View) >> Mail' or 'Control Panel >> User Accounts >> Mail' not the Oracle Connector Configuration Wizard.


To install Oracle Connector for Outlook:

  1. Exit all Microsoft Windows applications.

  2. Download the latest version of the Oracle Connector for Outlook.

  3. When the download has finished, open the archive and run the executable con_outlook_XXXX_XX.exe to begin the installation.

  4. Click Next on the Welcome screen of the InstallShield wizard.

  5. Enter your User Name and Organization in the Customer Information screen. Click Next to continue.

  6. Click Next to install in the default folder.

  7. Select the languages you want to install. The left pane contains possible languages, while the right pane displays languages that will be installed. Click Next to continue.

  8. Click Install to begin the installation.

  9. Click Finish to start the Configuration wizard. If you intend to configure Oracle Connector for Outlook later, deselect Start Oracle Connector Configuration Wizard, which is selected by default.

Configuring Oracle Connector for Outlook

  1. If it is not running, go to Start | All Programs | Oracle Connector for Outlook and click on "Oracle Connector Configuration Wizard". At the Welcome screen, ensure that Outlook is closed and press Next to begin configuring the connector.

  2. The Wizard will then ask you which Profile you want to install to. Select a Profile and click Next to continue.

    (Note: If you have multiple Profiles listed, it is important to install the connector to the one that Outlook uses. Go into the Mail Control Panel, and by hitting the Show Profiles... button, you can see which Profile Outlook uses, or choose to be prompted when Outlook starts.)

  3. Enter the following calendar settings:

    • Server Name: wisccal1.services.wisc.edu
    • Account Name: *your NetID*
    • Password: *your password*

  4. If you will be connecting to a mail server from within the Oracle Outlook Connector, fill in the mail sections. If you are using WiscMail or WiscMail Plus, we highly recommend that you configure within this profile.

    Enter the following mail settings:

    • Incoming Server Name: wiscmail.wisc.edu
    • User Name: *your NetID* (or your WiscMail Plus account)
    • Password: *your password*
    • Outgoing Server Name: smtpauth.wiscmail.wisc.edu

    Note: place a checkmark within the 'Use same password for all servers' box if that is the case.

  5. Click on the More Settings ... button.

  6. Within the 'Calendar' tab, make sure the "Display format" contains the middle initial when displaying user accounts.

  7. Within the 'Incoming Mail' tab, make sure 'SSL' is selected and the server port is set to '993'.

  8. Within the 'Outgoing Mail' tab, under "General" settings, make sure 'SSL' is selected and the server port is set to '465'.

  9. Within the 'Outgoing Mail' tab, under "Authentication" settings, make sure you have proper account credentials configured.

  10. Within the 'Outgoing Mail' tab, under "E-mail" settings, make sure you have the proper account credentials configured.

  11. Click on Apply. Then click on OK.
    Click on Next to complete the configuration.
  12. If possible, check the box labeled Set as Default Profile and click Finish to finalize the installation.

    Final Screen

  13. Important: Within Outlook, in the Calendar section, your WiscCal Calendar will be listed as Calendar along with the local calendar called 'Calendar in Personal Folders'. Place a checkmark on this Calendar to retrieve updates from the WiscCal server and see your WiscCal appointments.
