MERIT vs DoIT
- MERIT manages SOE accounts and the wisc.edu/education domain
- DoIT manages NetID accounts and the wisc.edu domain
An SOE account is used for:
- Logging into PCs and laptops connected to the SOE network
- Logging into the SOE portal for the GlobalProtect VPN
- Accessing SOE departmental network drives
- Accessing your SOE email account
- Accessing SOE licensed software
MERIT can provide SOE users with support for:
- Account creations, password resets, unlocks, username recoveries, etc.
- Network drive / VPN assistance
- Software installations / troubleshooting
- New computer setups
- Hardware troubleshooting (computers, printers, etc.)
- Quotes and recommendations for new hardware
- Referrals for hardware replacements
- Remote access to SOE resources
- AV technical support
MERIT does not support:
- NetID account assistance
- Direct hardware servicing
- Making new hardware or software purchases for patrons (but can advise)
