MERIT vs DoIT


  • MERIT manages SOE accounts and the wisc.edu/education domain
  • DoIT manages NetID accounts and the wisc.edu domain


An SOE account is used for:


  • Logging into PCs and laptops connected to the SOE network
  • Logging into the SOE portal for the GlobalProtect VPN
  • Accessing SOE departmental network drives
  • Accessing your SOE email account
  • Accessing SOE licensed software


MERIT can provide SOE users with support for:


  • Account creations, password resets, unlocks, username recoveries, etc.
  • Network drive / VPN assistance
  • Software installations / troubleshooting
  • New computer setups
  • Hardware troubleshooting (computers, printers, etc.)
  • Quotes and recommendations for new hardware
  • Referrals for hardware replacements
  • Remote access to SOE resources
  • AV technical support


MERIT does not support:


  • NetID account assistance
  • Direct hardware servicing
  • Making new hardware or software purchases for patrons (but can advise)
