Endpoint Security - Campus Symantec License Expiration
This article contains information on the upcoming expiration of campus licensing for Symantec antivirus.
Symantec License Expiration
Campus licensing for all centrally funded Symantec products (managed and unmanaged Symantec Endpoint Protection) is set to expire this summer. It is important that Symantec products are removed from all devices (both personally owned and UW-owned) at or before the license expiration dates outlined below, so that the university is not in violation of the licensing agreement with Symantec.
License Expiration for Students
The Symantec antivirus license for students expires on 6/24/2020. At this time students with Symantec installed on their personal devices should uninstall the software. License Expiration for Faculty and Staff
The Symantec antivirus license for faculty and staff expires on 7/31/2020. At this time faculty and staff with Symantec installed on their personal devices should uninstall the software. IT Admins that utilized the centralized Symantec service hosted on "Saguaro" (Symantec console hosting server) should be aware that the server was decommissioned on 7/30/2020. IT Staff with their own Symantec consoles should decommission the console and uninstall Symantec from all devices in their environment immediately. If removing Symantec from any university-owned devices, please replace it with Cisco AMP, the new centrally managed antivirus tool for university devices.
