Accessibility and usability barriers

The following barriers were identified while testing the Preparing for SOAR app.

Screen reader navigation barriers may impact people who are blind or have low vision

When navigating via screen reader, there is not always an announcement of state changes, such as when a dropdown menu option is selected, or status changes and error messages, such as when the user has exceeded the character limit in a text entry field.

Additionally, some jump links place the user's focus in the wrong page section, which could result in some confusion and navigation difficulties.

Keyboard navigation barriers may impact people with motor disabilities or visual disabilities

While most tooltips throughout the app are keyboard accessible, the "New" tooltip in the Your Summary page is not accessible to keyboard users.

Magnification barriers may impact people with low vision

When the page is magnified to 300% or higher, some dropdown labels get cut off and could make it difficult for users to identify which dropdown is which.

There is one instance where the bottom line of text in a tooltip gets cut off at 400% magnification.
