LastPass - What if I am Unable to Recover My Master Password?

1Password is replacing LastPass as UW-Madison's supported Password Manager. 1Password was selected for its intuitive user-friendly interface, robust set of features, and excellent track record in safeguarding sensitive data.
Current LastPass users are being invited to 1Password starting in December 2024. LastPass will remain active until May 2025. For more information and updates, refer to the transition FAQ: 1Password - LastPass Transition FAQs

In most cases a UW-Madison LastPass administrator can reset the master password for your LastPass Enterprise account.

If you are unable to recover your LastPass Master Password using self-service recovery options and you are a UW-Madison LastPass Enterprise user, contact the DoIT Help Desk to request a Master Password reset. (Do not contact the vendor's (LastPass) support team directly as they will not be able to reset your password, only UW-Madison LastPass administrators have this capability)

You must have previously logged into LastPass using the browser extension. If you have never logged into LastPass via the browser extension, LastPass administrators will not be able to reset your master password and you may need to reset your account (https://lastpass.com/reset_account.php). This will preserve your LastPass account, but erase the contents of your LastPass Vault. You will need to re-save your passwords and secure notes.

Master Password recovery is not applicable for UW-Madison LastPass Enterprise accounts using NetID Login. If you have forgotten your NetID password, follow the steps found here to rest it: NetID Account Recovery (Password Reset) See also:
