Shared Tools - GitLab - NetID for Non-UW Affiliate

A GitLab user may ask DoIT Shared Tools to get a NetID for a Non-UW Affiliate, such as a contracted developer, designer, or other collaborator. DoIT Identity Access Management (IAM) recommends that the client contacts the UW Office of Human Resources (OHR) to request that the non-UW Affiliate is added to the appropriate database.

Step 1: Attempt NetID recovery

If a non-UW Affiliates thinks they may have a NetID from previous work at UW, have them try to recover their NetID before requesting a new one to avoid duplicate identities.

Step 2: Contact OHR via email

Email OHR with the request below, making sure to CC all appropriate contacts.

Replace placeholders like [UW SERVICE NAME] and format for clarity.

Step 3: Confirm OHR response

Once the request is sent to OHR, each collaborator should receive an email response within 24 hours:

Dear Collaborator,

Campus ID: 1234567891

NetID Activation: https://mynetid.wisc.edu/activate

Please allow the system to refresh overnight before activating NetID.

Thank you,

 UW-Madison Office of Human Resources

If the collaborators don't hear from OHR, reach out on their behalf to netid@ohr.wisc.edu.
