UW-Madison Google Workspace - Custom Groups

Custom groups allow for data driven groups based on HR/SIS/Manifest data. The system automatically updates the Google Group membership overnight based on set parameters for that group. Custom groups are available here: https://email.wisc.edu/lists/custom.

Features

• Request data driven parameters. Contact the Help Desk for support.
• View members
• Members can choose not to receive mail.
• Group admins/owners are added as managers to groups.
• Managers can remove guests using https://email.wisc.edu/lists/custom.
• Guests can be a manager or a member. They are not part of the data driven population. 

Limitations

• Cannot export members. Custom Groups are not meant to be a data source.
• Cannot manage members in Google Groups.
• Members can't unsubscribe.
• Cannot delete a custom group. Contact the Help Desk for support.

Notes

• Emails are added in the netid@wisc.edu format, but alias email addresses will also work with the group.
