Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) is your gateway to the vast resources of UW-Madison. We serve more than 10,000 people each year, offering comprehensive assistance for returning adult degree students, career assessment, help with career transitions, and outreach to employers. We are also the admissions, advising, and academic dean’s office for 4,500 University Special students. Individual appointments and workshops on campus, drop-in sessions off-campus, and public programs allow us to reach you and meet your individual needs.
Role: Provides academic advising, admissions, records and other student services for non-degree-oriented students (University Specials and Guest Students). Maintains the UW-Madison Prospective Student System, supports Post-secondary Enrollment Option.
University Special students take University courses for credit at the regular per-credit undergraduate rate.Guest students audit regular UW-Madison courses at a reduced fee.
Senior Guest auditors are Wisconsin residents who are ages 60 and older who may audit classes for free. (Note: If a course is a special fee course charging non-standard tuition, auditors and senior guest auditors must pay whatever fee is associated with that class.)
