UW-Madison Zoom Workplace - Issues interacting between standard/secure/extension/uhs users

This article describes some of the issues you may experience when interacting with other users within Zoom.

How is UW-Madison Zoom configured - there are four types of user groups:

  • Standard
  • Secure
  • Extension
  • UHS (University Health Services)

See UW-Madison Zoom Workplace - Compare Personal, UW-Madison Standard, UW-Madison Secure Zoom, UW-Madison UHS, and UW-Madison Extension accounts for default meeting settings for each user type.

Where will issues arise?

Canvas users

  • Only standard/secure/extension user will be able to use Zoom module within Canvas. UHS users cannot use Zoom module within Canvas and will receive "Error Code 2216" error when they attempt to access Zoom module within Canvas. The reason is due to the requirements of Point-and-Click application and its configuration within UW-Madison Zoom. Workaround: Either access Zoom outside of Canvas or ask DoIT Help Desk to remove you from UHS group - important - if you choose to be removed from UHS group, you will no longer be able to access Point-and-Click application.
  • A standard/secure/extension faculty member will be unable to add a UHS user as an alternate host. Workaround: The organizer/owner of the meeting will have to wait until the event has started and the participant, who will be assigned as an alternate host, joins the event. At that time, the organizer/owner will be able to assign them as a co-host or host.
  • A standard/secure/extension faculty member will be unable to pre-assign a UHS user to a breakout room.
