AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps / NCCC
An environmental and community service program from Americorps, the President's national service initiative. Citizens or permanent residents ages 18-24 are eligible. Spend 10 months doing important community projects to help conserve and protect America's communities and their natural resources. AmeriCorps and NCCC focuses on six service areas- environment, education, public safety, human needs, homeland security, and disaster relief. Benefits include a living allowance of approximately $4,000 for the 10 months of service (about $200 every two weeks before taxes), housing, meals, limited medical benefits, up to $400 a month for childcare, if necessary, member uniforms, and a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of the program.
