UW-Madison Zoom - Test Your Zoom Desktop or Mobile Application Version

Starting January 11, 2022, meetings hosted by UW-Madison Zoom accounts will require attendees to use the Zoom desktop and mobile application version 5.6.3 or later. The Zoom web application will not be impacted. This document explains how to use the Zoom test room to check your application's version.

What is a Zoom test room?

The Zoom test room was created by the UW-Madison Zoom team to help individuals prepare to attend a meeting hosted by a UW-Madison Zoom account. Meetings hosted by a UW-Madison Zoom account will require attendees to use the Zoom desktop and mobile application version 5.6.3 or later starting January 11, 2022. Individuals who attend Zoom meetings using a web browser only will not be impacted.

What is the purpose of the Zoom test room?

The purpose of the Zoom test room is to ensure attendees are using a Zoom desktop or mobile application version that meets the technical requirements needed to attend a meeting hosted by a UW-Madison Zoom account.

Attendees who use a Zoom desktop or mobile application that does not meet the technical requirements can expect the following:

  • Unable to join the meeting from the Zoom desktop or mobile application.
  • Prompted to update the Zoom desktop or mobile application.
  • Presented the option to join the meeting from a browser.

To avoid seeing an unexpected prompt from the Zoom desktop or mobile application when joining a Zoom meeting hosted by a UW-Madison Zoom account, attendees are encouraged to test their desktop or mobile application, in advance, by joining the  Zoom test room to verify their desktop or mobile application's compatibility.
