External users (specifically those users with NetIDs provisioned through Manifest) are unable to use the integrated Zoom feature in noncredit Canvas courses.  This document outlines an alternative method for using Zoom in a noncredit course.

Affects

External users who set up NetIDs through Manifest will not be able to access the integrated Zoom feature in Canvas.  When users click on the link, they will get an error message that states “Sorry you are not eligible for this service”.

Workaround

As a workaround, instructors can embed a Zoom link in their Canvas content.

  1. Open Zoom.
  2. From the Home screen, click Schedule
    Zoom home page
  3. Enter the details for the meeting and click Save.
  4. From the Home screen, click Meetings.
  5. From the Meetings screen, click Copy Invitation. This will be the link that you will paste into your Course.

  6. Open your Canvas course.
  7. Find the page in your Canvas course where you want the link to go, and paste the invitation.

  8. Clean up the invitation by deleting any unnecessary information.  Do not delete the date, time, link, Meeting ID, and passcode.
