Lakeshore Nature Preserve permanently protects the undeveloped lands along the shore of Lake Mendota. The Preserve shelters biologically significant plant and animal communities for teaching, research, outreach, and environmentally sensitive use, and safeguards beloved cultural landscapes. The preserve is managed by the Department of Facilities Planning and Management.

Parking Lots open 4 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Vehicles parked beyond this time may be ticketed.

The Lakeshore Nature Preserve now has a new website with a new look and an incredible amount of information for visitors, including an interactive map of Picnic Point and its surrounding natural areas!
