SMPH VPN - Transiton to New Settings
If you are using UW-Madison’s VPN, this KB will show you step-by-step how to connect to the SMPH VPN. The SMPH VPN allows Surgery users to access both Surgery and UW Health network while using their Surgery-provided device. If you are unable to connect to the SMPH VPN you may need permission granted by Surgery IT . Please contact us at help@surgery.wisc.edu
Open Global Protect App and click on the three lines in the upper right. Then click on Settings

Click the Add button then type the new portal address: smph.vpn.wisc.edu. Click Save then close the Settings window.

Select the new portal address by clicking the drop-down menu and choosing the new address. The checkbox will move to the new address.

Click Connect and type your NetID username and password. (Do not append "_1" to your NetID, this is no longer required)

Per the instructions, type "1" and click Sign In to receive a MFA-Duo approval code.

Once approved, you will be successfully connected to the SMPH VPN
Notes:
Full network access to Surgery and UW-Health resources will only be granted if using a device that is managed by Surgery IT. Machines that are not managed by us will only get access to UW-Madison campus networks
If you believe you are using a supported computer and you do not have the proper network access, please call the Surgery Help Desk for assistance.
If you cannot login, there may be a connection issue, a password issue, or your NetID hasn't been added to the proper permissions group. Call the Surgery Help Desk for assistance.
