Connect to a School of Education Shared Drive on Windows

MERIT provisions folders for use by departments to store departmental folders on servers managed by the School of Education. These are the instructions to connect to a shared folder on a Windows based system


1. Before starting: If not physically connected to the School of Education network by an Ethernet cable, connect to the VPN using GlobalProtect: https://kb.wisc.edu/education/82398

2. Open File Explorer

3. Right Click on This PC in the list on the left side and select "Map Network Drive" (if using Windows 11, click "more options" to see Map Network Drive option)

4. In the Map Network Drive box that comes up set to the following 

Drive: S:
Folder: \\maple.ad.education.wisc.edu\SoE_Departments\{Your Department Acronym goes here*}

Reconnect at Sign In - Check if you want this drive to connect to the server every time you login
Connect Using Different Credentials** - Check if you DO NOT login to your desktop or laptop using your School of Education username and password (most often for laptops and PCs that are not on campus)

5. Click Finish

**If you selected Connect Using Different credentials, a box will now pop up. Enter SOE-AD\ then your School of Education username such as SOE-AD\BBadger then select enter

If your Shared Folder does not show up in the Folder List of File Explorer after these steps OR if you see any error messages please contact the MERIT Public Service Desk including your name, department, the operating system you are using and, if possible, screen shots of the exact error you are seeing.
