"As compensation for the study, we can pay you or give you extra credit in a CSD course. Which would you prefer?"

If they choose extra credit

Ask which class they want it for, and write that on the experiment running sheet.

If they choose money

Follow the below instructions to inform the participant about Advarra. The lab manager or postdoc will handle actually paying the participant.

Get the Advarra handout from the filing cabinet (same place as paper consent forms). Give it to the participant and tell them generally how payment will work.

Suggested script: "Like many labs at UW and UW Health, we use a system called Advarra to pay you. We will make an account for you based on your name and the email address you used when communicating with us. This handout will tell you what to do. Within 48 hours, you should get an email with a subject like, "welcome to Advarra." The email will also have instructions for how to register. You can choose how you want to get your money. You can link a bank account for direct deposit, or you can have a check mailed to you. You will need to complete the Advarra registration process before you get your money. If you don't get the email within 48 hours, first check your spam folder, then email us to ask for help."
