FileMaker - Accessing a database on the HSLC FileMaker server.

There are two Filemaker servers at HSLC. The Filemaker V10 server is filemaker.hslc.wisc.edu and the new Filemaker V13 server is filemaker13.hslc.wisc.edu. This document describes how to access a database hosted on one of the Filemaker servers. You must know on which server your database resides and you must have the appropriate Filemaker client. You can have both versions of Filemaker installed but the client version must be compatible with the server version for your database.

Open your FileMaker Pro client and select "Open Remote..." from the File pulldown menu.

Select "Favorite Hosts" as your view option and then select "filemaker13.hslc.wisc.edu" (v.13) for your database.

Note: If you do not see your server listed in "Favorite Hosts" click on "Add" to add it.  Once you add it the host will stay for future use.

When you select the server name, in the Favorite Hosts window you will see the available databases appear on the right.

IF you are prompted for a username and password, enter your Active Directory username and password.

(This is the same username and password you used to log in to your HSLC computer.)

Select the database you would like to open from the "Available Files" list and click "Open".

IF you do not see your database listed, verify you are using the correct version Filemaker client, and that you are authorized for the database.

  • To be authorized for a database, contact your supervisor.

  • To have the Filemaker client installed, open a HelpDesk ticket.

Note: If you are unable to connect to the Filemaker database with your HSLC network credentials, it could be that the server needs to be rebooted.  For the installer, we have been using FileMakerPro14 (apps volume) to connect to the above listed database server.
