Printing (Windows) - Mapping a Printer on a UW Device

How to map a departmental printer in Windows.

These steps are intended for departmentally-owned Windows devices. If you are using a personal device, please see Printing (Windows) - Mapping a Printer on a Personal Device instead.

If you cannot determine the name of the printer, please contact Technical Support, noting your department and the location of the printer.

  1. If you are off-campus, connect to VPN (see WiscVPN GlobalProtect (Windows) - Installing, Connecting, and Uninstalling).
  2. Uses Make Me Admin (Windows) to become temporarily an administrator.
  3. Open a File Explorer Windows File Explorer icon window.
  4. Click into the address bar near the top of the window.
  5. Enter \\lsstz-winsrv-01.ad.wisc.edu and press Enter.
  6. If prompted for credentials, enter them as follows:
    1. Username: ad\netid (e.g., ad\bbadger)
    2. Password: your NetID password
    3. Check the Remember my credentials box
  7. When presented with the list of printers, locate the printer you'd like to map. They are labeled by building abbreviation, room number, and printer model.
  8. Right-click and select Open. It may take a minute for the mapping to begin.
  9. If prompted for a printer driver installation, allow the installation, entering your computer's password if needed.
  10. Once a small window named after the printer opens, the printer has successfully been mapped.
