The minutes for the meeting of August 1, 2022, were approved.

The University Committee discussed possible changes to the dual role waiver process. There was a motion to add dual roles combined under 50% appointment and when teaching is in a non-degree granting program as reasons a blanket waiver could be requested (Bernard-Donals). Seconded and approved.

Lori Reesor, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, reported that there has been a request for a cultural center for students with disabilities. They have been given access to a conference room space, but ideally would like more space and something in the Red Gym.

The Wisconsin Welcome for students is more coordinated and intentional this year, with learning outcomes in mind and trying to avoid conflicts. As part of the program, new students are invited to Camp Randall to learn about traditions and then form a W on the field for a picture. They are also hosting a Our Wisconsin program speaker for the first time.

They conducted a survey of students after they attended SOAR this year. Questions for the coming year include how students will be prepared for college in comparison to previous classes due to COVID and how they will handle absences if they need to be out of class for extended periods due to COVID or monkeypox.

Papp motioned, and it was seconded, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(c) and (f) to discuss rule waivers and committee appointments at 1:42. One tenure clock extension, two contract corrections, and five dual roles were approved.

Papp motioned to reconvene in open session at 2:26. It was seconded and approved.

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin introduced herself to the University Committee. She is looking forward to working with the UC. She asked the UC to help her figure out where issues go, when and why. She looks forward to listening during these first several months on campus. She expressed an interest in meeting with groups of faculty to learn more about their perceptions of UW-Madison.

The University Committee discussed a draft Emerit policy from the Office of Human Resources. Heather Daniels will draft possible changes to FPP that would complement the policy.

Papp adjourned the meeting at 3:38.
