Transfer DataVault Data with Globus

Globus is a tool for reliably transferring large amounts of data. This guide details how to use it with the DataVault research storage via "DataVault - Wisconsin Institute for Discovery" collection.

Note: if you are intending to transfer to or from your personal computer, you need to add it as a Globus endpoint and collection. You can find instructions on how here.

To transfer a file to or from the DataVault:

  1. Connect to https://app.globus.org, select University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Organizational Login dropdown, and press Continue.
  2. Sign in with your UW NetID.
  3. In File Manager, enter "DataVault - Wisconsin Institute for Discovery" in the Search bar next to Collection.
  4. Put /mnt/dv/wid into the Path section, then select ever project and folder you want to do a transfer to or from.
  5. Once you've selected the data you want to transfer (or the folder you want to transfer into), click Transfer or Sync to....
  6. In the new pane, search for the collection you want to transfer with. If this is your personal computer, make sure that you've set it up as an endpoint.
  7. Go to the path of the file you want to copy to the DataVault, or the folder that you want to transfer data to.
  8. In the pane with the file or folder you want to copy, select that file or folder by checking the box next to it.
  9. Press Start to begin a transfer.
  10. You can monitor its progress in the Activity section.
