Web Hosting - Proxy Restrictions
The Shared Web Hosting service does not support proxying with services that are external to our service. This introduces added complexity to the shared hosting platform for the various reasons.
False Positives for Denial of Service Attacks
DDoS protection and Web Application Firewalls see a single IP address as an attacker and will deny requests if the traffic limit is exceeded within a certain amount of time. This issue can inadvertently affect access to a website due to these rate-limiting settings.
False Positive Outages
If an outage occurs with the proxy service, it can appear as though the site is down due to an issue in DoIT Web Hosting. It can be time-consuming and challenging to pinpoint the cause of these outages.
Additional Concerns
- DNS-related concerns over these domains not resolving to DoIT Web Hosting Platforms
- Requires special configuration in order for things like analytics to work
- Security vulnerabilities and security scanning become immensely more complex because things are not all in the same place
- Reported security issues that are not part of the Web Hosting service. This requires staff to dedicate valuable time and resources to troubleshooting.
Work Around:
The use of new domain names and redirects to get end users to the correct content.
