CHM IT - Connecting to Printers at Kennedy

How to connect Windows & Mac machines to the 2nd floor Ricoh printer at CHM

Note: For sustainability and cost efficiency reasons, please try to limit your printing to as few pages as possible and print in grayscale as much as possible. The printers should only be used for CHM-related printing.

Windows/Mac Desktop

If you’re using a Windows or Mac desktop machine, the CHM 2nd floor printer should already be installed automatically! If it’s not, please email help@chm.wisc.edu and let us know which machine is giving you issues.

Windows Laptop

FIRST - Make sure you’re connected to the Brain Imaging VPN or WiscVPN!

Step 1: Installing the Drivers

  • Before we add the printer, we’ll want to download the drivers so you can have all the neat features of our multifunction printer. CLICK HERE and download the “PCL 6” Driver.
  • Open up the application (“z97510L16” or the like). Change the path from “C:\temp\...” to C:\RicohDrivers\ and hit “Unzip”

Unzipping Ricoh Drivers

  • This will dump all the necessary drivers for your printer into C:\RicohDrivers\. Now we’re ready to install the printer!

Step 2: Adding the Printer

  • Open the control panel by clicking Start and typing “Control Panel”. Open “Devices and Printers” or “View Devices and Printers” and select “Add a Printer”

Windows Control Panel

  • NO NEED TO WAIT FOR THE BAR - just click on “The Printer I Want Isn’t Listed”

Choose a Device Window

  • Choose “add a printer by IP address or host name” and click next

Add Printer radio buttons

  • Change the dropdown to “Autodetect”, then type in CHM-PR-SHYGUY.chm.wisc.edu in the address box, and hit next.

  • On the next window, you can name the printer whatever you’d like. I’d recommend “CHM 2nd Floor Printer”, but it’s up to you!

  • Click next, enter your admin credentials for the laptop (your “-admin” username & password), and the printer will install!

Mac Laptop

FIRST - Make sure you’re connected to the Brain Imaging VPN or WiscVPN!

  • Open the DMG installer you downloaded, and run the installer package. This will pre-load the drivers in the background for you.
  • Click on “Apple” and open “System Preferences”, then open “Printers & Scanners”. Click the “unlock” button if needed, and then select “Add a printer”

    Mac Add Printer Window
  • There will be three “buttons” at the top of the add printer screen. Choose the middle one that looks like a globe/internet. Enter the following settings:

Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
Name: CHM 2nd Floor Printer (or whatever you’d like)
