Tenure Process and Timelines

Per the Administration & Governance - Procedures for the Guidance and Evaluation of Probationary Faculty Members, a Mentoring and Oversight Committee may make a recommendation for tenure or termination at any time during the probationary period, but must do so no later than during the mandatory tenure review year. Once it has been determined that a faculty member will go up for tenure, administrative staff will meet with the Mentoring and Oversight Committee chair and the candidate to discuss the tenure dossier process. Probationary faculty are encouraged, but not required, to update their Box folder with their latest publications, awards and other available documents as they move through the probationary period.

Tenure dossiers will be reviewed by the SoHE Executive Faculty and the respective Divisional Committee. Please view the Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities Division tabs below for more information about the timeline.

Once a tenure dossier has been submitted to the appropriate Divisional Committee meeting, the committee will assign members to completely review the entire dossier. Following the Divisional Committee meeting, a recommendation will be provided to the SoHE dean. In order to give the dean an adequate amount of time to review the recommendation from the Divisional Committee, we generally request 48 hours for a response. All tenure decisions require final approval by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.

Preparing Your Dossier

All documents should be uploaded to your Box folder. Follow along with the appropriate divisional dossier checklist to know which folder documents should be placed it.

*Tip: If you are updating an existing document, you can upload a new version of the document rather than a separate new document. Click on the 3 dots icon next to the file size and select "Upload New Version".
