Academic Affairs Statistician

Statistician services for health professions programs' accreditation and quality improvement efforts

Academic Affairs employs a statistician at a 50% appointment.  This statistician assists health professions programs (Masters of Genetic Counseling, Masters of Public Health, Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Masters of Physician Assistant Studies) with programmatic quality improvement and accreditation requirements.

To request statistician services, the program director of the relevant health professions program should email the statistician with a detailed request including, at a minimum, a specific description of the analysis request, the planned use for the analysis, and a deadline.  If the deadline is related to an accreditation or other mandatory report, please include this information. A description of the available data should also be included. Please include whether this will be a recurrent request and if so, on what basis (e.g., annual, biannual, etc.).

The statistician will not provide services for health sciences substantive research or study.  In other words, the request must fulfill an educational programmatic goal or requirement.

When prioritizing timeline and resources, the statistician will consider the following factors:

  1. The program’s next accreditation date
  2. The urgency of the request.  For example, if the program is engaging in admissions quality improvement, at what point is the program in the admissions cycle?
  3. The availability of data that can be used to be used to improve programmatic quality.
  4. The partnering ability of the relevant program to support the analyses (give programmatic context, evaluate possible data issues, help explore the findings of the projects).

If a request is unable to be fulfilled or is unable to be fulfilled as the requested timeline, the relevant program director may email the director of accreditation and compliance for review of the request.
