Accessibility & usability barriers
The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist.
Magnification and interface barriers create difficulties perceiving information for some users, such as people with low vision.
Some pages do not re-flow when the page is magnified 200-400%, decreasing readability and causing horizontal scroll. When magnified, elements crash and become inaccessible. Color contrast within tables is low. Additionally, focus indicators and some text do not have strong color contrast.
Significant barriers exist for individuals using screen readers, such as people with low vision and blindness.
In entering time, which is required of most DoIT employees, what should be the column heading of a table is a button, which leads to a confusing experience when navigating the table via screen reader. A screen reader user would not know what to do with the cells that are set up to enter the hours for the projects, as they do not have any context or column heading that is available to the screen reader. In general, the information described from the tables to screen reader user lack context and can be inaccurate. Dates within tables are not fully read aloud, input information is not fully described, previously entered information is not described to the user as previously entered, and text fields are not indicated to screen reader user. Heading levels and “skip to main content” buttons are missing. Several headings are skipped; screen reader users rely on headings for navigation, so skipped headings create a barrier.
Keyboard navigation barriers limit accessibility to all web features for some users, such as people with motor disabilities, people with low vision and people who are blind.
Focus indicator styling is minimal and difficult to perceive. Focus is lost between the “options” and “help” buttons within the navigation menu. Additionally, there is no “skip to main content” button.
