Academic Affairs Space Assignment

Workstation assignment requests and relevant school and department policies.

Our utilization of office workspaces is governed by SMPH space policy. Links to school policy and guidelines as well as current HSLC space assignments are provided on this page for your reference.

Generally, the following question flow determines the type of workspace that can be offered to an employee.

    • What does the employee's remote work agreement indicate? If the employee is on-site more than 1 day per week, the employee is eligible for assigned space. Employees who are infrequently onsite should utilize a touchdown space when onsite. For recruitment planning purposes for new or open positions, it is usually best to assume that the employee will be eligible for an assigned space to ensure availability if needed.
    • Does the employee's title give them eligibility for a private office per SMPH Policy? If Yes, is a private office available?
    • If not eligible for private office, then employee is eligible for cubicle or shared office. Assignment will consider availability in the employee's unit, and equity within the unit and within Academic Affairs.

Special Considerations

Since SMPH has formalized its space policies, job requirements have been recognized as impacting allocation of space. For Academic Affairs, the most  common situation is jobs that require privacy for sensitive and confidential conversations for more than 50% of their work week. We currently have several staff assigned to private offices for this reason.

An employee's needs may also be a consideration:

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is committed to providing students, faculty, staff and visitors with access to its programs, services and facilities. This includes providing reasonable accommodations that ensure qualified applicants and employees with disabilities have equal employment opportunities.

Resources about accommodations can be found on the Employee Disability Resources page.
