MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis

This document provides information for the use of MAXQDA, a qualitative data analysis software, by staff at UW-Madison Division of Extension.

What is MAXQDA?

MAXQDA is a software for qualitative data analysis. It offers a wide range of tools for reviewing data, coding or categorizing information, performing analysis, and creating visualizations. Example uses include:

  • Summarizing program evaluation data
  • Analysis of survey, focus group, or interview data
  • Conducting a literature review

MAXQDA supports importing data from Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and PDF files as well as several other formats. There are also a number of functions for note-taking and summary writing within MAXQDA, allowing you to keep all your project notes in one MAXQDA file.

Licenses and Support:

Division of Extension has a limited number of licenses for MAXQDA 2024 available to Division of Extension staff to use for work-related analysis projects.
