Tuition Surcharge for Undergraduate Excess Credits

The document addresses the surcharge for students who have earned more than 165 degree credits as an undergraduate and have not completed their degree.

The excess credit policy is designed to encourage students to graduate in a timely manner. Accumulating significantly more credits than required for a bachelor's degree typically does not enhance the value of the degree and may limit access to courses for other students who need them to graduate.

While students may continue their enrollment beyond the minimum credit requirements, the UW policy establishes a limit on the tuition subsidy available to Wisconsin residents. This ensures that resources are used efficiently and equitably across the student population.
