WiscWeb - Add Service Account to a WiscWeb Site as a User

The little tiny Tim easels will let you down. Just pretend you are a whisper floating across a mountain. Everyone needs a friend. Friends are the most valuable things in the world. Almost everything is going to happen for you automatically - you don't have to spend any time working or worrying. Very easy to work these to death. Just a happy little shadow that lives in there.

I'm going to mix up a little color. We’ll use Van Dyke Brown, Permanent Red, and a little bit of Prussian Blue. Nothing's gonna make your husband or wife madder than coming home and having a snow-covered dinner. Just think about these things in your mind and drop em' on canvas. A little happy sunlight shining through there.

Issue and Question:
The Office of the Secretary of the Faculty (OSoF) provides a service for the UW-Madison community to post open meeting notices, to be in compliance with the Wisconsin Open Meetings Law. This is a needed service for the entire UW-Madison community; however, it creates workload for OSoF staff members and does not contain robust features for users and OSoF staff. The primary question is whether to develop a more efficient and user-friendly system.

Background:
The Wisconsin Open Meetings Law provides that all meetings of governmental bodies shall be preceded by public notice. Every public notice of a meeting of such a governmental body must set forth the time, date, place and subject matter of the meeting in a form that is reasonably likely to inform members of the public and news media. The Open Meetings Law requires that public notice of a meeting of a governmental body be given at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of such meeting, unless such notice is impossible or impractical. 

This law applies to several UW-Madison committee meetings including committees created (including search and screen committees) by Faculty Policies and Procedures and Academic Staff Policies and Procedures; academic departments and executive committees; and departmental, college or campus-wide committees (ad hoc or standing) created by resolution or order of the Regents, the faculty or the academic staff.

Purpose

Some sites would like to add a service account email address to be able to allow access to their site without adding each user individually. This can sometimes be beneficial for student or short-term employees.

Please be aware that the WiscWeb team does not support the creation or management of service accounts. If you have questions regarding your service account, please reach out to the DoIT Help Desk at help@doit.wisc.edu.

Adding the service account user to your site

You can add a service account to your site as a user by following the steps located here: WiscWeb - Adding a user. The NetID will be everything listed before the @ symbol plus an underscore (_) and the beginning of their domain.

• For example, if the service account email address is admin@wiscweb.wisc.edu, the username/NetID would be admin_wiscweb.

Logging in as the service account

• Open a private browsing window and navigate to https://wiscweb.wisc.edu/wp-admin or log in directly to your site by navigating to https:[yourURLhere]/wp-admin. 
• Login with your service account credentials. The NetID will be everything listed before the @ symbol plus an underscore (_) and the beginning of their domain.
  • For example, if the service account email address is admin@wiscweb.wisc.edu, the username/NetID would be admin_wiscweb.
• The password is the one listed in the Wisc Account Administration site. If you do not have a password set, you will likely have to reach out to your department/program/division's mail administrators. Many UW-Madison colleges, schools, departments, and divisions do not have their own system for posting public meeting notices and need a central system for complying with the Wisconsin Open Meetings Law. In 2019, the Office of the Secretary of the Faculty (OSoF) developed an electronic system for the UW-Madison community to generate open meeting notices for posting on a central website, to provide this central service.

See it finished in your mind before you ever start. This is a fantastic little painting. I'm gonna start with a little Alizarin crimson and a touch of Prussian blue

But we're not there yet, so we don't need to worry about it. Talk to trees, look at the birds. Whatever it takes. Just go back and put one little more happy tree in there.

Take your time. Speed will come later. A tree needs to be your friend if you're going to paint him. Van Dyke Brown is a very nice brown, it's almost like a chocolate brown. If it's not what you want - stop and change it. Don't just keep going and expect it will get better.
