CHM IT - Connecting to Research/Restricted Drive
Connecting with a Windows Machine
HEY! Before you continue: did the PI of this drive (or IT) grant you access? You need those permissions set before continuing!
-
If you are on a laptop: first, connect to the UW-Madison VPN. CHM Desktop computers should not need to use the VPN.
-
Open “This PC” by clicking Start and typing “This PC”, then hit enter
-
At the top of the explorer window, click “Computer” and “Map Network Drive”:
-
“Drive” can be any letter you’d like.
-
"Folder" will be the address of the research/restricted drive. This will change based on the PI. Examples:
-
\\restricted.drive.wisc.edu\rjdavids
If you don't know - ask your PI or IT!
-
Make sure to click the “reconnect at sign-in” and “connect using different credentials” button
-
Click “Finish”
-
On the next window, enter AD\(your netID). It’s VERY IMPORTANT you include “AD\” otherwise this will not work!
