ResearchDrive & Research Object Storage (S3) - Support Account Terms of Service
Purpose
The ResearchDrive and Research Object Storage (S3) support accounts (formerly known as a "demo" account) are storage accounts that eligible UW-Madison support staff may request that has the same technical features as a non-support accounts but is intended for limited use (see guidelines below). A support account is a great way to experiment with ResearchDrive and/or Research Object Storage (S3) features and to provide support and education to researchers without incurring any costs. Note: you must make individual requests for support accounts for each service.
Eligibility
Support accounts are for permanent staff who support researchers (such as IT or Library staff).
Usage Guidelines
- Exploration and testing: Support accounts are intended for exploration, testing, and familiarization with ResearchDrive and Research Object Storage (S3) features.
- No long term storage: Data should not be stored long term in support accounts. Accounts found to be storing data long term may be subject to fees and/or data deletion.
- Options for long term storage: If long term storage is needed, the support account can be converted to a fully billed ResearchDrive and Research Object Storage (S3) account by providing billing information. Any storage used will result in charges at the current rate.
- Restricted Data:
- Research Object Storage (S3) does not yet support restricted data, and data of this kind must not be stored in this service.
- ResearchDrive supports restricted data, but additional security controls are required. Restricted data may only be stored, with approval, in specific folders that have access managed by authorized data administrators. In addition, workstations used to access and store restricted data must meet specific security guidelines.
