The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m.
The minutes of May 2 were approved.
Convene in Closed Session Pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(c), and (f) to Discuss Nominations for ASEC Chair and Vice Chair, the UW-Madison Chief of Police Search and Screen Committee, and the Dean of the College of Engineering Search and Screen Committee (Stoddard Cameron). Seconded. Approved.
Motion to Reconvene in Open Session (Stoddard Cameron). Seconded. Approved.
Business
- ASEC Chair/Vice Chair – for vote
ASEC elected Albert Muniz and Alissa Ewer as its chair and vice chair, respectively, for July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025.
- Nominations – for vote
Motion to nominate Louis Macias, Noreen Siddiqui, and Steven Wright to the UW-Madison Chief of Police Search and Screen Committee (Walker). Seconded. Approved.
Motion to nominate Mary Fitzpatrick, Mark Friesen, Daniel Gaona, Deborah Helman, and Brian Nunez to the Dean of the College of Engineering Search and Screen Committee (Paape). Seconded. Approved.
Guest: Beth Meyerand, Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Affairs
Vice Provost Meyerand provided an update on the status of the unified hostile and intimidating behavior policy. The Office of Compliance needs to hire more investigators before the policy can take effect. Jane Dymond, a current Ombuds, is taking training this summer to become a mediator. Once trained, she will serve a 3-year term as a mediator.
Related to the protest activity, Vice Provost Meyerand sent an email to department chairs to make them aware of the situation.

Vice Chancellor Cramer provided an update on the central compensation fund exercise. The Office of Human Resources (OHR) has been working with school/college/divisional human resources to get payroll updates submitted. One-time bonus funds will be processed by the end of June.
The Administrative Quality Satisfaction Survey closed on April 30. The overall response rate was 13.86% and almost 14,000 qualitative responses were received. Responses are being analyzed and results will be shared out with the campus community.
Initial guidance related to the position cap was provided to deans and directors last week. OHR is putting together a decision tree to help determine if positions are subject to the cap or not.
8,000+ students are moving out of University housing. Last year, 150,000 pounds of product was diverted from landfills.
General Reports
Albert Muniz, ASEC Chair, reported that the budget approach Coordinating Committee focused on the Overhead Allocation Task Force at their last meeting.
Lesley Fisher, Interim Secretary of the Academic Staff, reported that Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska will be the next Vice Chancellor for Research, beginning September 1. Lesley encouraged ASEC members to complete the feedback survey for the secretary of the academic staff finalists.
Liaison Reports
Terry Paape reported that the Personnel Policies and Procedures Committee discussed ASPP Chapter 7 at their meeting yesterday.
Business
- Paid Parental Leave Letter
ASEC approved the University Committee’s suggested edits and is ready to send the letter.
