Reactivating Duo

This document is a simplified version of the DoIT KB article linked below.

This help guide is based on the KB article at https://kb.wisc.edu/iam/88607.

If you get a new phone or device that needs Duo reactivated, please follow these steps:

1. Go to https://mfa.wisc.edu and login with your NetID and password.

2. Click on the big Manage MFA Preferences and Devices button:

MFA Duo Button showing Manage Preferences and devices

3. You will be prompted to login once again. Instead of doing a push or entering a code, click on the Other options link:

4. In the Other options to log in dialog box, click on Bypass code:

5. In a new tab or window, open https://www.mynetid.wisc.edu/mfa-recovery/ (this link will open in a new tab or window when clicked). Then answer your three recovery questions to obtain a temporary code. If you do not remember the answers to your security questions you will need to contact the DoIT Help Desk at 608-264-4357.

6. After answering your three questions you will receive a Temporary passcode. Now you can go back to the other tab or window and enter the passcode in the Bypass code box.

7. Once this is done, follow steps 4-7 at https://kb.wisc.edu/iam/88607 to finish setting up your device.
