Canvas - Course Analytics (for Students) [UW-Madison]
What is Course Analytics?
Course Analytics (formerly New Analytics) is a tool that provides interactive graphs and tables that allow instructors and students to track data related to course grades, activity, and communication.
Students can use Course Analytics to view and download data about their course grades, weekly online activity, and Inbox communication.
Data displays in interactive chart graphs or tables. You can also download the data.
Data is refreshed for published courses in the Course Analytics dashboard every 24 hours. Report data may be delayed by 24 hours; however, Course Activity Report data may be delayed by 40 hours.
How Should I Use Course Analytics?
Course Analytics is a Learning Analytics tool available to students. Tools like Course Analytics gives students (and instructors) access to data about their learning. Among many things, this data can be used for the following reasons:
- To help track progress in a course,
- To identify patterns or issues in course engagement
- To get more information on how you did on an assignment.
While Canvas provides Course Analytics to help students reach their learning goals, it is just one point of data that students have access to. If you really want to understand how you are doing in a course, please:
- Examine all the data and resources you have access to.
- Most importantly, meet with your TA or instructor
- Discuss the data in Course Analytics with them, to see if there are insights that can help you both.
