Microsoft 365 - Ask your admin or helpdesk for Office message

When using any of the Microsoft Office desktop applications, you receive "Ask your admin or helpdesk for Office" message.

What causes this message?

The UW-Madison Microsoft 365 account you are attempting to access (or signed into Office) is not licensed for Office desktop applications (Office Pro Plus).

Why am I not licensed for Office Pro Plus?

The Microsoft licenses assigned to an account are predicated by your affiliation with the university. Learn more.

Important: Even though you are not licensed for Office Pro Plus license (Office desktop apps), you can access your account and many other online applications via Outlook on the web.

Who manages your affiliation with the university?

Depending on your affiliation, either HR or Registrar's Office.

What can I do?

Contact the appropriate office and confirm your affiliation. You can also work with your local IT staff to find a solution which best meets your needs.
