Overview of Peer-Faculty Annual Review (P-FAR) - Faculty Success Database

The P-FAR process for the annual review of faculty was developed by a faculty taskforce in 2014 and approved by the All Faculty Committee on November 24, 2014. The process was revised in 2015 and again in 2019 with the School of Human Ecology Executive Committee giving final approval on October 21, 2019.

A copy of the policy can be found on the SoHE KB.

Reporting Effectiveness

Both P-FAR annual reports and P-FAR annual reviews are used during other internal SoHE faculty review processes such as Post Tenure Review, Promotion to Professor Review and Endowed Faculty Appointment Review. Faculty committees are given access to these reports for the time period being reviewed. By doing this, the effort for the reviewed faculty member can be significantly reduced. Rather than writing historical summaries of Scholarly, Teaching and Outreach, and Service activities, SoHE policies only request an overall summary along with future plans that meet the expectations of the particular review.

Data collected within the Faculty Success database, along with other more subjective metrics, are also being used to generate Dean’s office recognition for both graduate student mentorship and School-level service.
