Windows protected your PC message

When trying to install an application, you get the following message "Windows has protected your PC - Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk."

**Most of the time you can choose More info and then Run anyway.**

Occasionally, the Run anyway option is not available. In those cases, do the following:

  1. Right click the installer > choose Properties.
  2. At the bottom of the General tab next to Security, check the box for Unblock
  3. Choose Apply and then OK.
  4. You should now be able to run the installer (you may still have to run as admin or provide admin creds).
