Course Search & Enroll - Adding Multiple Special Topics Sections to Cart
Overview
Special topics courses consist of various subject matter offerings (course topics) under a main/broad course title. Because of this, students may want to enroll in multiple course sections during the same term. This is possible using the steps outlined in this document.
Courses are presented in Course Search & Enroll search results in two ways:
- The main course title/shell which, when expanded, displays all topics offered that term; and
- Each topic title displayed as its own entry.
Steps
- Log in to MyUW, then select the Course Search & Enroll tile. By default, you will start on the “Course Search” tab.
- Select the appropriate term and subject, and click “Search”.
- Tip: Do not use the “Add by Class Number” feature. It will not work for adding multiple topics to cart in the same term.
- Tip: Do not use the “Add by Class Number” feature. It will not work for adding multiple topics to cart in the same term.
- Scroll through the search results until you find the special topics course that contains the topics in which you wish to enroll. You will select each of your desired topic titles separately.
- Select and add to your cart the first of the specific topic titles -- not the main course title/shell -- in which you wish to enroll.
For example, the main course shell for LAW 808 is “Advanced Legal Writing.” The topic titles are “Bar & Practice Skills” and “Contract Drafting”.
In this example, we’ll start by adding Contract Drafting. Click on “LAW 808 Contract Drafting” and then “See sections” to expand section details. Once displayed, click “Add to cart”. - Once you’ve added the first topic (“Contract Drafting” in the LAW 808 example) to your cart, you can go back to the search results and add the second topic (“Bar & Practice Skills” in the LAW 808 example).
- Once the individual topics have been added, they will appear in your cart with the course title/shell, topic titles, and number of credits. In the LAW 808 example, both "Contract Drafting" and "Bar & Practice Skills" are two credits.
Troubleshooting
If you find that each time you add a topic, it’s replacing another topic of the same course in your cart, it’s because you expanded the course shell (“Advanced Legal Writing”) instead of the individual course topics.
When you expand section details for the course shell of LAW 808 Advanced Legal Writing, you’ll see two lectures with different topic titles listed: LEC 001 Contract Drafting and LEC 002 Bar & Practice Skills. You can add a topic/section to your cart from this display, but each time you add a section, it will replace existing sections in your cart.
To ensure that doesn’t happen, follow the steps earlier in this document.
