The Employee Assistance office at UW- Madison offers professional staff offer free counseling and consultation when personal or work-related concerns become difficult to manage.

EAO Services
Personal Counseling
UW–Madison provides personal counseling to employees (including employed graduate students), their families, and significant others. Consider reaching out to the Employee Assistance Office when you need help with work-related or personal challenges
To schedule an appointment with the Employee Assistance Office, please contact us by phone or email. Appointments are available remotely or in-person. All appointments are private and confidential.

LifeMatters
LifeMatters is a free service external to the UW which extends the services of the EAO by providing confidential telephone access 24/7 to professional counselors in support of employees’ personal and work-related concerns. LifeMatters provides a wide variety of resources including training, financial and legal consultation. Counselors are available in real-time via phone, text or video. There is also a website.

Grief and Critical Incident Response
The EAO provides grief and critical incident response services to UWâMadison employees and work units. Critical incidents are events outside the usual range of experience for most people and would be considered distressing to almost anyone. In the workplace, a critical incident can cause unusually strong reactions in the body and can impact normal functioning.
Training and Presentations
The EAO provides customized training opportunities and presentations to audiences across campus. In some cases, we may be able to develop a new presentation to meet your needs. Presentations may be requested by supervisors, deans and directors, human resources professionals, wellness committees, conference planners, and others.
Management Consultation
Managers, supervisors, deans, and department chairs work with the Employee Assistance Office to address workplace issues through unlimited management consultation.

Ombuds Office
A confidential place to seek guidance on workplace concerns, to clarify concerns and identify resources.
The Ombuds Office is a safe place where UW-Madison employees can seek guidance regarding workplace concerns at any time, without fear of reprisal, and at no cost to them. Ombuds provide faculty and staff with a confidential place to collaboratively explore complaints, clarify issues, and consider options and resources to address their concerns. Ombuds are impartial and non-aligned, working to promote fairness in the workplace.
