CHM IT - Adding a new folder and/or restricting access on your Research/Restricted/CHM Drive

How to add (and restrict access) on your Research, Restricted, or CHM Drive

Adding a new folder

As the owner of your research/restricted/CHM drive, you should have the power to create new directories in your drive space. Be forewarned: until the folder is locked down by IT, everyone in your lab space will be able to see and modify anything you put in this folder!

Restricting access to a folder

  1. Create the folder and name it whatever you'd like.
  2. Email help@chm.wisc.edu and let us know the location and name of your folder (i.e. "It's on my restricted drive: restricted.drive.wisc.edu\tnchristian\coolStuff\super_secret\pictures_of_cats")
  3. CHM IT will create a new Manifest list with you (and anyone in your "admin" manifest list) as the administrators.
  4. CHM IT will send a request to DoIT to add this list to our active directory. This usually takes 24-48 hours. Once this is complete, we will restrict the folder using your manifest list. Do not start using the folder until we tell you!
  5. Once all these steps are complete, you will be able to see your Manifest list and add members. If you don't know how to do this, read this walkthrough: https://kb.wisc.edu/chm/129690
