CHM IT - Adding a new folder and/or restricting access on your Research/Restricted/CHM Drive
How to add (and restrict access) on your Research, Restricted, or CHM Drive
Adding a new folder
As the owner of your research/restricted/CHM drive, you should have the power to create new directories in your drive space. Be forewarned: until the folder is locked down by IT, everyone in your lab space will be able to see and modify anything you put in this folder!
Restricting access to a folder
- Create the folder and name it whatever you'd like.
- Email help@chm.wisc.edu and let us know the location and name of your folder (i.e. "It's on my restricted drive: restricted.drive.wisc.edu\tnchristian\coolStuff\super_secret\pictures_of_cats")
- CHM IT will create a new Manifest list with you (and anyone in your "admin" manifest list) as the administrators.
- CHM IT will send a request to DoIT to add this list to our active directory. This usually takes 24-48 hours. Once this is complete, we will restrict the folder using your manifest list. Do not start using the folder until we tell you!
- Once all these steps are complete, you will be able to see your Manifest list and add members. If you don't know how to do this, read this walkthrough: https://kb.wisc.edu/chm/129690
